Fidel Castro, 81, has resigned from his responsibilities as President of the Cuban Council of State and Commander in Chief of the Revolution. Due to ill health, he prefers to stay out of government activity and to participate in political debate “ which has always enchanted him “ through his friends in the media. He remains, however, a member of the Political Bureau of the Cuban Communist Party.
